Study Of Leading Commodity Decision on Rural Agro-Industry Development in Tulang Bawang Regency

The development of rural agro-industry has strategic purpose since it is expected to increase the added value of agricultural products through the utilization and application of processing technology. Tulang Bawang is one of area with high potency for agro-industry development of in Lampung Province. This is supported by production of plantation crops such as palm, rubber, sugar cane, and Acacia mangium; while for food crops through production of commodities such as rice, maize and cassava. The objection of this research was to determine the commodities priority for potential rural agro-industry development in Tulang Bawang. This study used primary data and secondary data. The primary data obtained through surveys and interviews that involved a number of competent respondents in this field consisting of bureaucrats, academics, and practitioners. While the secondary data were obtained through of the literature from a variety of relevant sources. Then data were analyzed using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The results showed that the development of agro-industry in Tulang Bawang must pay attention to the criteria in the development of agro-industry sequentially: (a) human resources (0.41172); (b) the availability of raw materials (0.30981); (c) technology feasibility (0.20970); and (d) the potential areas (0.06876). Agro-industry technology development in Tulang Bawang should be focused in priority order based commocities: cassava (0.25351), rubber (0.18843), fisheries (0.13037), palm (0.13024), rice (0.07823), livestock (0.07185), corn (0.06135), sugarcane (0.05622) and Acacia mangium (0.02979).
