The Selection Based on Quantitative Trait Loci (Qtl) as An Alternative to The Selection Based on Variety on Lowland Riceplants Planted on Organic-Upland
Abstract
Selection process based on variety on rice has achieve stagnant. With the introduction of selection based on Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) it is expected that the production of rice plants could beincreased. The research was conducted in January to June 2015 in the Integrated Field Laboratory, Universityof Lampung. Seeds were composited to each of variety Mutiara, Kesit and Tewe; and also to each of the QTL tiller angle, grain number (JBU), and plant height. The research was arranged following quasi Randomized Complete Block Design. Prior to being variance analysed, the data averages of each variable were tested for variance homogeneity following Bartlett’s and Levene’s. When the result of anova was significant at P < 0.01 atau 0.01 < P < 0.05 ranking of means was conducted utilizing Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) which followed by Multivariate Analysis. The magnitude of genetic variability and broad-sense heritability were predicted based on the expected mean square (EMS) values of the anovas. The research results indicated that (1) the selection based on QTL could be used as an alternative to the selection based on variety as shown on the ranking based on BNJ0.05, (2)there weregenetic variability and broad-sense heritability of population entries on plant height, number of productive tillers, empty seed dry weight, spike dry weight, 100 grain weight, and time to flower variables, (3) based on dendrogram, cross could be done between population of different variety-same QTL, same variety-different QTL, and different variety-different QTL.
